You are always a valuable, worthwhile human being — not because anybody says so, not because you’re successful, not because you make a lot of money — but because you decide to believe it and for no other reason.” — Wayne Dyer

Today I am grateful for great friends, time to myself, finding peace within myself in almost every situation, learning to enjoy creating, and learning to create efficiently.

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.” — Dalai Lama

It hit me last night, I was playing with my little boy and he was giggling away and in that moment I knew all was perfect in my world.  I thought to myself .. this is how it feels when I know that I am going to receive the best things in life, this is when I know beyond a shadow of doubt that life is perfect just as it is.  I am infinitely grateful for all the times when I hear him laugh.  That laugh symbolizes hope, love, giving, receiving, gratitude, healing, and peace.  And probably for everyone else the laugh of a child symbolizes something significant also.  Maybe you can pause today and think of when you last heard a child laugh and bring that feeling into yourself and try to pass it along to someone else.

I have spent a lot of time today listening to one of my friends unconsciously “bad-mouthing” another friend of hers in front of their child — it’s been a rough day.  Every time I want to say something about why is she still there and in that situation I stop myself and just say, “What I have to say I cannot say right now.”  I know that sometimes when I say things to people, in the moment, it doesn’t always come out the way I want it to.  Yet, listening to this type of thing just is soo difficult and changing the topic is not changing the situation, I have tried that also.  I know obviously, my friend is hurt deeply in some way and all I can do it seems is have some compassion for her and yet not feed the unconscious story.  This is the kind of situation that really makes me take a good look at myself – it makes me really pay attention to how I talk about others, myself and to others and myself.  I am grateful to be able to look beyond the words, feel peace in this situation, and know I can change myself.

For a while, I spent most of my time in meditation and quiet consideration, it helped me immensely.  I was able to clear myself of the unwanted old habits, the old thoughts, and the old memories and then I learned to re-create my story and understand my life from a different perspective.  Now, today, I attempt to put into practice more and more what I have learned about myself and as I continue striving to be the best me possible, learning more and more each day as I interact with people, new faces and old faces.

They say practice makes perfect, well perfection always seems further away but loving myself and others more seems closer all the time.  I am grateful for my friends that push me more and more to be more gentle with myself and them, even though at times I still struggle with this.  We each have our journey and for me there is a need to practice allowing and less judging.  I find it supremely difficult at times to allow others to go off on their own, their own way.  I once had to learn that I couldn’t buy other people their happiness and no matter how much I want to help them I can only show them by my own example.   I thought I had thoroughly learned this lesson and apparently I have yet to learn more from it.  At one time, I actually paid for one of my friends to continue with her own learning at school, she gave up even though I took the financial burden from her she still felt overwhelmed.  I realized that we have to really want something in order to pursue it, and the moment someone allows “I can’t …” into their vocabulary then they won’t.

I guess while I am practicing you are too.  If I make what I think is a mistake it should be OK as long as I learn something from it.  If I didn’t get the lesson the first time – it will come back for me to experience and learn again.

Practice, practice, practice.  Practice giving of yourself.  Practice loving. Practice being.  Hone your own self and make yourself into the best you possible so you can be an example.  Everyone else is perfect in their own way.  There used to be this song I heard…. Everyone is Beautiful in their own way….The world’s gonna find a way.

List the top ten things you need to do today.

Everyone has heard that “Peace starts within.” So I want us to consider today what this phrase really means – to bring a depth to our understanding. Let’s begin with a definition of Peace.  How would you define peace?  What does it mean to you?  Read the definition from two different sources – Websters and Wikipedia

So what is peace really?  A feeling of harmony with others but moreso within ourselves — because we (I) are/am the ones who feel peace.

Is it ever possible to give someone something that you do not have?  When you were buying gifts or making gifts for others for the season’s holidays — you could not actually give those gifts to others without first having them in your possession.  The same goes for any quality or feeling — we cannot give what we do not possess.  Well in order for us to feel peace with others and/or the world we need to first feel or have the feeling of peace within ourselves.  This is the basic or first level understanding of “Peace starts within.”

Going beyond this first level understanding — we need to realize what it really means to be at peace with ourselves to actually feel peaceful.  To feel the harmony with our true Self — our Spirit.  Knowing our thoughts, our feelings, our wishes, our desires, and working towards the fulfillment of these things is actually what brings harmony to ourself and gives us that sense of peace.  Finding the time / Creating the time to listen to ourselves/ our Self helps us to learn, helps us to know ourSelf.

Now I want you to look at your top ten things to do list.  How many of these things on your list are really for you?  How many help you in your soul’s growth?

So what can we do to find this inner peace?  To listen to our True Self?  To REALIZE Peace? 1.  Take 10 minutes a day to sit in silence and listen to your soul. 2.  Write a list of 10 goals for yourself.  Include goals of a physical as well as spiritual nature. 3.  Write down, interpret, and learn from your dreams. 4.  Take 5 minutes at the end of the day to acknowledge your learning and consider what you did well and what you can improve on every day.

Remember the recycling/environmental phrase — Think Global / Act Local. Think about world peace and harmony / Take action in your own life and be a picture of peace for others to follow.

Please read with us and add your energy to the thought / creation of Peace as we ring in the New Year.

The Universal Peace Covenant

Peace is the breath of our spirit. It wells up from within the depths of our being to refresh, to heal, to inspire.

Peace is our birthright. Its eternal presence exists within us as a memory of where we have come from and as a vision of where we yearn to go.

Our world is in the midst of change. For millennia, we have contemplated, reasoned, and practiced the idea of peace. Yet the capacity to sustain peace eludes us. To transcend the limits of our own thinking we must acknowledge that peace is more than the cessation of conflict. For peace to move across the face of the earth we must realize, as the great philosophers and leaders before us, that all people desire peace. We hereby acknowledge this truth that is universal. Now humanity must desire those things that make for peace.

We affirm that peace is an idea whose time has come. We call upon humanity to stand united, responding to the need for peace. We call upon each individual to create and foster a personal vision for peace. We call upon each family to generate and nurture peace within the home. We call upon each nation to encourage and support peace among its citizens. We call upon each leader, be they in the private home, house of worship or place of labor, to be a living example of peace for only in this way can we expect peace to move across the face of the earth.

World Peace begins within ourselves. Arising from the spirit peace seeks expression through the mind, heart, and body of each individual. Government and laws cannot heal the heart. We must transcend whatever separates us.

Through giving love and respect, dignity and comfort, we come to know peace. We learn to love our neighbors as we love ourselves bringing peace into the world. We hereby commit ourselves to this noble endeavor.

Peace is first a state of mind. Peace affords the greatest opportunity for growth and learning which leads to personal happiness. Self-direction promotes inner peace and therefore leads to outer peace. We vow to heal ourselves through forgiveness, gratitude, and prayer. We commit to causing each and every day to be a fulfillment of our potential, both human and divine.

Peace is active, the motion of silence, of faith, of accord, of service. It is not made in documents but in the minds and hearts of men and women. Peace is built through communication. The open exchange of ideas is necessary for discovery, for well-being, for growth, for progress whether within one person or among many. We vow to speak with sagacity, listen with equanimity, both free of prejudice, thus we will come to know that peace is liberty in tranquility.

Peace is achieved by those who fulfill their part of a greater plan. Peace and security are attained by those societies where the individuals work closely to serve the common good of the whole. Peaceful coexistence between nations is the reflection of man’s inner tranquility magnified. Enlightened service to our fellowman brings peace to the one serving, and to the one receiving. We vow to live in peace by embracing truths that apply to us all.

Living peaceably begins by thinking peacefully. We stand on the threshold of peace-filled understanding. We come together, all of humanity, young and old of all cultures from all nations. We vow to stand together as citizens of the Earth knowing that every question has an answer, every issue a resolution. As we stand, united in common purpose, we hereby commit ourselves in thought and action so we might know the power of peace in our lifetimes.

Peace be with us all ways. May Peace Prevail On Earth.

May peace be with us all ways. May peace prevail on Earth. Copyright ©2003- 2008 School of Metaphysics
